The French Dispatch was filmed in Angoulême, the town I've been going to once every one or two years to visit my grandparents. Named Ennui-sur-Blasé (Boredom-on-Apathy) in the movie, I can't do anything but agree. It. is. So. Boring. Except for the Festival de la Bande Dessinée every year, nothing interesting goes on (I mean, I do spend most of my time there sitting on my temporary bedroom's windowsill, feet on the roof, looking over the trees at the road ahead, but still.) Anyway, Thimothée Chalamet being in the town I grew up visiting is a flex I love to have.
Lady Bird is one of my favourite movies ever ever ever. It illustrates my relationship with my parents perfectly (my old therapist said "oh no..." when I told her). Ladybird and I are the exact same person (we even have the same personality type, ENFP) and I cannot watch it without sobbing!
Nausicaa isn't my favourite Studio Ghibli movie but it is pretty up there on my list. The environmentalist message is still relevant today (maybe more than ever) and it would be a lie if I said I wasn't scared out of my fucking mind about the future of the planet. Ever since I was 12, I've joked about dying before reaching 30, but as the years go by I'm afraid it'll be a reality (okay no I'm not, I don't think I was born to live a long life, but I'm afraid for the people my age who are terrified of dying young). Anyway, except for the spooky scary theme, I adore the aesthetics, Nausicaä's clothes, and, of course, Teto.
Fantastic Mr. Fox is a top tier childhood movie. I watched it a few weeks ago and can confirm it's also a top tier teenagehood movie. My ex doesn't like it and says it's scary and unsettling, but I disagree.
Fallen Angels is probably Wong Kar Wai's most popular movie with In the Mood for Love. I told a crush I loved Wong Kar Wai movies once and he changed his profile pic on Instagram from a poem to a still of Takeshi Kaneshiro's character getting his mugshot taken after an arrest. I love Wong Kar Wai movies so so much. His colors and composition are artistically inspiring and even though my attention span is often in a constant state of short-lengthedness, and his storylines are long and not super action packed (not counting As Tears Go By), I still find myself entranced and focused for longer than I usually am. I know I haven't said much about the actual movie I picked, and that's because I don't know what to say! I do feel bad for Takeshi Kaneshiro, this is the second time one of his Wong Kar Wai characters has something pineapple-related go wrong in his life.
Moonrise Kingdom also isn't my favourite Wes Anderson movie (the 'Favourites' at the top of the page is purely decorative). I feel bad for Kara Hayward having to be in undergarments on a set full of practically only men and boys because it could easily be a situation in which she wasn't comfortable. I hope she is and was okay. Other than that, Suzy Bishop and I are very similar, from her love for books to her mommy issues. My favorite scene is the one when she pulls out the book she found her parents owning: Coping With the Very Troubled Child. Something like that happening to me is a very real possibility.
